Welcome to Kyusyu Island!
Your road trip will start today. Pick up your car and drive safely and have a great trip. First stop is Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka. This major Shinto Shrine less than an hour drive from Fukuoka’s city centre, is famous for its abundant plum blossoms and fascinating history.
Next stop is Hita Onsen, small hot spring village in Oita where you can enjoy hot spring bathing, Hita Gion Museum where display permanent exhibition of 6 Matsuri Floats patrolling at the "Hita Gion Hikiyama Event", which has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. You also see old houses using an ancient construction techniques and materials in Mameda area. Strolling through the streets, you will inevitably arrive at the Sake Brewery which makes for a great place to start exploring Hita a bit more deeply.
If you are interested in pottery, visit Onta where is vintage pottery village about 15 km north of Hita The village consists of ten families, all with their large houses and all with their own kilns. All pottery here is produced in ancient way, no modern machinery is used.
Then drive head to Beppu Onsen to stay. Enjoy the hot spring after your long drive.

Beppu – Yufuin – Mount Aso – Kurokawa Onsen
Today, join the half day “Beppu Essential tour” with English speaking guide.
Highlight is best hells (Jigoku) of the town, featuring iconic Onsen steam panoramic views and authentic local experience.
Drive “Yamanami Highway” to Mt Aso in the afternoon. The journey is one of Japan’s greatest scenic routes to drive. Highway is a misnomer, as this is a delightful winding, country road. It leads south-west through an ever changing, spectacular landscape of forests and farms from Beppu, via Yufu-dake and Yufuin, across the Handa Kogen plateau and Chojabaru marshes. Here it climbs up to and over the Maki-no-To Pass in the Kuju mountains before descending over hilly grasslands, before reaching a dramatic finalé at the rim of a huge and spectacular caldera in the middle of which Mt. Aso-san, an active volcano, often sends plumes of vapour and smoke into the skies. Strung along the highway are a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and viewing points to pause for a rest and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Stay in a hidden gem, Kurokawa Onsen.

Kurokawa Onsen – Kumamoto City
Enjoy your relaxing time in the morning.
This countryside is beautiful, there are also several hiking paths to enjoy from the village into the surrounding countryside.
Drive head to Kumamoto City. Park your car at the hotel and explore this historical city by walk & tram. Must visit Kumamoto Castle & Suizenji Garden.

Kumamoto city – Yame – Hakata
After checking out, drive to the secrets of the hidden green tea valley, Yame in Fukuoka.
Yame’s abundant nature offers different atmospheres according to each season. From plums, cherry blossoms, azaleas, to rhododendrons, the flowers that bloom in the Chanokuni (Tea Country) of Yame are all idyllic and lovely.
You also enjoy a modern French Lunch at “LE UN” in Nipponia Hotel before heading back to Hakata, Fukuoka
