Furano is located in the centre of the island of Hokkaido and is an authentic Japanese town that happens to have a world class ski resort on its doorstep. One of the charms of a ski holiday in Furano is being able to explore the town, and dine and drink at the same restaurants and bars that the locals go to. Furano Ski Area is regarded as having the best quality powder snow in Japan and offers challenging terrain for all abilities. It is well known for its stable weather and bluebird days, and because of this provides amazing panoramic views to the other side of the valley. The ski area is divided into two linked zones and has hosted 10 FIS World Cup Downhill events and 2 Snowboard World Cups. Beginners and intermediates can enjoy perfectly groomed runs, while high intermediate and advanced skiers can challenge themselves on the ungroomed powder areas and steeps. Night skiing operates on both sides of the mountain and makes for a spectacular way to spend the evening. There is a modern network of lifts including a 6 person gondola and 101 person cable meaning that queues are rarely seen.
