Arai Ski Resort closed in 2006 but is scheduled for full re-opening in late 2017 under the new ownership of the Korean Lotte Group. Formerly branded as "Arai Mountain Resort and Spa" it will be known after re-opening as "Lotte Arai Resort".
The hotel is located in northern outskirts of Myoko ski area that is just about 2 hours from Tokyo by bullet train and is offering world-class hotels with spa and onsen facilities, dining and retail stores, an international snow school and alpine activities.
Lotte's goal is to turn the area into "Asia's best ski resort". Aside from complete renovation of the lifts and other infrastructure, there are additional proposed recreational facilities. From spring to autumn there will be four activities – a zip line that is said to be the largest in the country, a tree top adventure that crosses a suspension bridge over the forest and a log bridge, an indoor bouldering centre and tubing activity.
